Administrative History

Grand Valley State University College of Education offers a highly regarded program of teacher instruction and training. The program emphasizes learning theory and inquiry combined with practical application. The College of Education is committed to ensuring that students, in their chosen academic fields and in their professional education program, gain the knowledge, skills and resources to become quality educators. In 1964 Educational Studies Institute was founded; there were four faculty/administrators. In 1980 School of Education joins the College of Arts and Sciences. In 2004 the unit becomes the College of Education (COE).
