Historical Note

The Padnos International Center (PIC) was given the Padnos name for Barbara H. Padnos in 1999. Formerly the Office of International Studies in 1970, the office has helped centralize responsibility for the development and administration of international exchange activities sponsored by GVSC. In 1974 the office was given the status of independent institute under the name of Global Education Institute, which changed its name again in 1979 to Center for International Studies. In 1984 the Office of International Affairs (later Studies) was founded and the PIC was reorganized into the College of Interdisciplinary Studies in 2004. PIC promotes, advises, and administers study abroad and internship opportunities for students in over 4,000 locations globally. PIC also provides orientation materials, immigration support, advising services, programming, and other resources for the growing international student population. Lastly, PIC sponsors and co-sponsors on-campus events aimed at internationalizing and educating the campus community.
