Biographical Statement
Donald James Angus (1887-1966) was born in Wisconsin, dropped out of school at 16, and was self-educated through a variety of jobs. He worked in the field of electrical engineering, specializing in electrical measuring and recording devices and was part-owner of the Esterline-Angus Company of Indianapolis. His interests also included amateur radio and photography. In 1908 Angus was hired to install transformers, switches, metering and recording devices for new alternating current equipment in the electrical engineering laboratory. Later he was called back to instruct the electrical engineering faculty in the use of the alternating current system in the transition from direct current.

The D. J. Angus photograph collection consists of over 10,000 negatives and prints from ca. 1900-1960s. They were taken by Angus in his birth place of Wisconsin; his home in Grand Haven, Michigan; his places of work Indianapolis, Indiana, and Lansing, Michigan (Michigan Agricultural College); and on recreational trips throughout the southwest, south, and Mexico.
