Wells, Kate Gannett, 1838-1911


Catherine Boott Gannett was the daughter of Ezra Stiles Gannett (1801-1871), a Unitarian minister in Boston, and Anna Linzee Tilden (1811-1846). Anna’s sister, Catherine Brown Tilden, lived with the family following the former’s death and became “Aunt Katy” to the children. Catherine B. Gannett married Samuel Wells (1836-1903) on 11 June 1863. She became an anti-women’s suffrage proponent; wrote books under the name Kate Gannett Wells.
