Biographical Note

Based on internal evidence, this photograph album was probably assembled by Gertrude ("Gert") C. Barrette or her family, although it cannot be definitely attributed to her. It is in any case a product of the extended French Canadian immigrant Barrette, Levesque, and Jussaume families of West Warwick, Rhode Island and Fall River, Massachusetts, many of whom were employed in the textile industry.

Gertrude was born 29 May 1920 in West Warwick. She was the only child of Theodore Barrette (1897-1991), the owner of an automobile service station, and Florida Jussaume (1896-1979). Gertrude attended the Dominican Academy in Fall River, Massachusetts and graduated in 1938. In 1940 she was living at home with her parents and had attended college for one year. At some point she married John Joseph George (1927-1992) who was born in Warwick, Rhode Island and had subsequently lived in Cranston, R.I. and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. Gertrude died on 10 August 2016 and is buried with her husband in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, R.I.
