Administrative History

The Academic Affairs Officers is a committee of the Presidents Council, State Universities of Michigan, the coordinating board of the 15 state universities in Michigan. The Academic Affairs Officers Committee consists of the provosts of Michigan Universities.

The Provost serves as the chief academic officer of the University. Reporting to the Provost are the deans of the eight instructional colleges and university libraries, the academic support divisions, and faculty governance committees. The Provost reports to the Office of the President. The Office of the Provost has been held by Glenn Niemeyer (1980-2001), John Gracki (interim 2001-2002), Gayle Davis (2002-2017), and Maria Cimitilé (2017-present).
