Abstract

The Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies, founded in 2000, was inspired by Ralph Hauenstein's life of leadership and service. The Hauenstein Center is one of the leading presidential studies centers in the nation. Its mission is to illuminate the American presidency, to raise civic literacy, learned discourse, and a new generation of leaders. Abstract Lewis William Seidman (L. William) was an American economist and financial commentator born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was one of the founders of Grand Valley State College. Seidman worked as an advisor to Presidents Ford and Reagan. He served as the chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and worked extensively during the American savings and loan crisis to restore solvency to the failing savings and loan institutions.
