Correspondence between George Quimby and Jimmy Griffin from 1939-1981. Their correspondence relates to personal matters as well as anthropology, cultural artifacts, and studies of American Indians. Several letters mention James Zumberge, Grand Valley State College’s first president.

Abstract Richard E. Flanders was a professor of Anthropology at Grand Valley from 1964-1988. After participating in the Korean conflict, he attended Mexico City College, followed by the University of Michigan where he earned his PhD. Flanders developed the sociology and anthropology departments at Grand Valley. Flanders initiated the archeological excavation of the Blendon Landing area on the Allendale Campus.
